Problem: Windows overwrite grub. Grub missing.

Solution:

  1. Use a live linux to get access to your hdd.
  2. Use for example unetbootin with ubuntu live
  3. Open a terminal
  4. Use fdisk -l to find out where your linux
  5. system is installed
  6. For example our linux system is located on sda1
  7. mkdir /mnt/debian
  8. mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/debian
  9. ls /mnt/debian/home/yourusername # check if
  10. the mounted partition is the correct system
  11. For using chroot we need some preparation
  12. cp -L /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/debian/tc/
  13. mount -t proc none /mnt/debian/proc
  14. mount --rbind /sys /mnt/debian/sys
  15. mount --rbind /dev /mnt/debian/dev
  16. chroot /mnt/debian /bin/bash
  17. grub-install /dev/sda1
  18. update-grub
  19. exit 20 shutdown now -r
